jENNIFER KAVANAGH

My name is Jen Kavanagh. I am married to my husband Brian and together we have four amazing grown children. I moved to Myrtle Beach two years ago after many years of plotting my exodus from PA! I have been in the health and wellness field for almost 20 years. I started my career as a nationally certified personal trainer. I worked a short time at a local gym before having the basement of my home converted to a full gym and starting my own training business. This allowed me to work at home as my children went to school and always have time for them growing up. What prompted me to start my own business? Well, I was very unhealthy for many years and found myself very overweight at 211 pounds. I lost 75 pounds and have kept it off now for 18 years. Through that experience I knew I had to help people with their nutrition to help them achieve their goals. Soon after starting “Fitness For Women,” I went back to school for my certification in nutrition specializing in weight loss. I changed my business name to Living Well Nutrition and continue to help hundreds of men and women get healthy through both fitness and nutrition. I am very passionate about the healing power of foods and lifestyle modification. While I don’t have any family members ever having had breast cancer, I have had several friends walk through this journey over the last 10 years. My true passion lies in helping people get healthy. I am truly honored to be a part of The Apple Breast Cancer Warrior Foundation. I love helping people and together we can help the many local women struggling with this disease.

KATHY KOPERSKI

After 31 years of having the best job on the planet, teaching middle school science, I traded the snow for the sand and retired in Myrtle Beach. Kathy works at Myrtlewood Golf Glub 1500 48th Avenue North, Myrtle Beach.

My years in education provided me with opportunities to  coach,  advise, coordinate, facilitate, mentor, design, evaluate, and most importantly, problem solve.

As the Student Council Adviser,  I worked side by side with my students to plan and implement a community service project they were extremely passionate about: Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Year, after year, after year...I saw more and more students who had experiences with  friends, family, teachers , dealing with breast cancer.  The number of people I personally know, childhood friends, parents of students, even colleagues, has grown also.

My involvement with Michelle, and the Apple Breast Cancer Foundation, has given me the opportunity to support local community members dealing with a breast cancer diagnosis. In supporting the Apple Breast Cancer foundation, my hope is that there will be more money, more research, more hope, and less suffering.

TERRY CADY

I was born in Pottsville, Pennsylvania but lived most of my life in Michigan. I attended Lincoln Park Schools and graduated in 1983. Then I attended Henry Ford Community College, earned my Bachelor’s Degree and teaching certificate from the University of Michigan Ann Arbor, and then earned my Master’s in Middle School Curriculum from Eastern Michigan University. While in college, I started a family and had my wonderful daughter Ely. I taught psychology and sociology at Lincoln Park High School for 30+ years and retired in 2021. My life goal after retirement was to move somewhere warm, near the ocean. My boyfriend and I moved to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in 2022. We love all our new neighbors and friends in Belle Harbor who have donated generously to the Apple Breast Warrior Foundation and couldn’t be happier in our new beach home and neighborhood.

The first person I knew with breast cancer was my Aunt Jean. She was a very strong woman and survived breast cancer, but many years later she died of bladder cancer. Once you talk to people, unfortunately, you realize that every person is affected by breast cancer in one way or another. I was very fortunate to meet the wonderful, inspiring, and caring founder of the Apple Breast Warrior Foundation, Michelle Medure Apple. After meeting her and becoming friends, I quickly realized I wanted to get involved with the foundation. After about a year of volunteering, Michelle honored me by asking me to be on the foundation’s board. I am excited to continue my efforts to help the organization.
